Santiago Sosa, founder and owner of this brand, worked in a bank for years until his father took him on a trip to Scotland. They went on a whisky-making tour and Santiago fell head-over-heels in love with the process. He came back to Ecuador, quit his job and decided to make whisky his own way, using water from a natural source in his family land. Now, Murco is the first Andean single-malt in the world.
Packaging Design / Brand Identity / Storytelling

For the brand’s identity and packaging, we wanted to merge the technical aspects of whisky-making with the geographical context in a way that looked elegant and modern. That’s how we created the swirl: a curved line in the shape of the Andean mountain range with a copper texture to replicate the barrels where the whisky is brewed. We worked with NON Studio to bring to life using 3D rendering, giving the label a futuristic touch.
We take every part of the brand’s story to inspire our design process. From the very first idea, to where it came from and how it gets made, we know the heart and soul of the brand lies within.
We didn’t choose a traditional path for Murco’s design because its founder didn’t choose a traditional path for himself. It’s a risk, but very often, those risks are worth taking.
